About the Department :

             The department was established at 1972 as a part of the Oral Surgery Dept. at the university of Baghdad. In 1980, it was isolated as an independent Dept. The prime objectives of the Dept. are:

1. Providing the undergraduate education ( Theoretical;, Laboratory & clinical courses) in the field of:

    a. Oral Histology & Embryology for the second year students.

    b. General Histopathology for the third year students.

    c. Oral & maxillofacial radiology for the third year students.

    d. Oral Medicine for the fifth year students.

2. Providing the postgraduate education in the field of:

    a. Oral Diagnosis (Diploma).

    b. Oral Histology ( M.Sc & Ph.D)

    c. Oral Pathology ( M.Sc. & Ph.D)

    d. Oral Medicine ( M.Sc & Ph.D)

    e. Oral Radiology ( M.Sc)

3. Advancement in Oral diagnosis through periodic arrangement & participation in conferences &

    continuing education programs.

Type of treatment (s) offered to the patients:

     1. Providing the histopathological diagnosis of the referred cases from different hospitals in Iraq.

     2. Providing the digital radiographic diagnosis ( OPG, Lateral Cephalometric, TMJ & other extraoral

         views plus intra oral views) through the use of DIMAX intranet system) for the referred cases of

        College's Depts. & other teaching centers in Baghdad & other Governorates.

     3. Providing the conventional intraoral radiographic diagnosis for the inpatients & outpatients.

     4. Providing clinical diagnosis & treatment for Oral Medical cases .

Information about post - graduate / year + degree awarded :

I. The Diploma studies usually extended over a period of one year, after which the student awarded

     the Diploma degree in Oral diagnosis when the candidate fulfilled the following requirements:

     1. Basic Science Courses.

     2. Concentrated programs in the Biomedical Dental sciences.

     3. Loading system of seminars & lectures related to oral diagnosis.

     4. Clinical requirements

     5. A Dissertation submitted to the dept.

II. The M.Sc studies usually extended over a period of 2 years , after which the student awarded

      the M.Sc degree in Oral Medicine or oral pathology or Oral radiology or Oral histology when the

      candidate fulfill the following requirements: 

      1. Basic Science Courses.         

      2. Concentrated programs in the Biomedical Dental sciences.

      3. Loading system of seminars & lectures related to oral diagnosis.

      4. Clinical requirements

      5. A thesis submitted to the dept.

III. The Ph.D studies usually extended over a period of 3 years , after which the student awarded

        the Ph.D degree in Oral Pathology or Oral Histology or Oral Medicine when the candidate fulfill

        the following requirements:

                   

  1. Advanced courses in biochemistry, Immunology & Histopathology & Biotechnology.

 

  2. Advanced training courses in Oral diagnosis.

 

  3. A Thesis submitted to the college.

 

Information about under – graduate students :

   

1. In the second year, the under-graduate students should be enrolled in a lab. Program for microscopic examination of oral tissues & embryology study for 2 hours/week with a theory program of 2 hours/ week.

 

2. The third year students should be enrolled in a lab. Program of general histopathology for 2 hour/week with a theory program of 2 hours/week.

 

3. The third year students should be enrolled in a clinical session of Dental radiology for 2 hour/week with a theory program of 1 hours/week.

 

4. The fourth year students should be enrolled in a lab. Program of Oral histopathology for 2 hour/week with a theory program of 2 hours/week.

 

5. The Fifth year students should be enrolled in a clinical session of Oral Medicine for 2 hour/week with a theory program of 2 hours/week.
